WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO THE WORK? AN OPEN MIND AND OPEN HEART

The Work is extremely simple and profoundly deep.  It has two central activities:

Identifying the explicit stressful situation and your thoughts, feelings, body sensations, memories, and projections. Byron Katie makes available a free printable form called “Judge Your Neighbor worksheet” (JYN) which is available by clicking below.

The second activity is the asking and answering of four questions and an activity called the turnarounds.

Here are the four questions posed in reference to a typical stressful thought, e.g., “My brother had hidden animosity against me.”

  1. Is it true?
  2. Do I absolutely know for sure that it is true?
  3. When I believe this thought, what happens, how do I react?
  4. What would my life be without the thought?

Turn the thought around, usually in three ways: to the self, to the other, and to the opposite — e.g., I have hidden animosity against myself, I have hidden animosity against my brother, my brother does not have hidden animosity against me.

Byron Katie’s greatest contribution:

No stressful thought can survive a gentle inquiry.

The Work of Byron Katie is a way of identifying and questioning the thoughts that cause all the anger, fear, depression, addiction, and violence in the world. Experience the happiness of undoing those thoughts through The Work, and allow your mind to return to its true, awakened, peaceful, creative nature.
